Merry Christmas from Our Home to Yours - MELE KALAIKIMAKA!
People always ask what is Christmas is like in Hawaii. It is much like Christmas other places in that there are customs and traditions that bring smiles and happiness. It is the same celebration of Christs birth. We trim a beautiful big tree. Our cats love to tear apart the gift wrapping on the packages and knock down the bird ornaments. Neighbors exchange holiday goodies, which sometimes are sugar cookies but more often bananas or dried fish. Poinsettias grow like bushes or trees because the weather conditions are so ideal. We can see the snow covered summit of Mauna Kea volcano, yet turn makai and see the whales jumping in the warm Pacific Ocean. We do typically work on the holidays as it is a popular time for tourists. We take photos for events, Duncan usually has a music gig and Ranae is always scheduled to dance at Lava Lava Beach Club. The palm trees have colorful Christmas lights so it is festive.
